Where interesting if you are driving from Whistler to Vancouver airport but don"t want to go into the city?

Have 3 hours to spare. Maybe there is something interesting to visit on route?
I have 7 hours in total to drive from Whistler to vancouver airport so I am thinking I will have some time to spare. Am going in mid-March. Any ideas of something to do without driving back into Vancouver?

I agree with the others, you will probably need the three hours for travelling with construction on the Sea to Sky Highway and a risk of slides in rainy weather you can’t predict delays. You can’t really avoid the city when you are going from Whistler to the airport. Going the longer route around the city is uneventful and is just surburbia. A real shame in come to Vancouver to not see any of it.
Coming back from Whistler I would stop in Squamish and check out Shannon Falls which are the tallest falls in BC. There are a few spots along the highway coming back as well which you can stop at and take pictures of the amazing views. Drive down to Vancouver perhaps stop in Horseshoe Bay which is located in West Vancouver and check out the ferries, grab something to eat, check out lighthouse park, then drive into Vancouver over Lions Gate Bridge. You can drive around within Stanley Park rather then through it and it is a great quick scenic drive. Just take the first exit after the bridge. You will end up in English Bay and you can head over Burrard Street or Granville Street bridge enroute to the
airport. Have fun.

-The Sea to Sky Highway is very curvy and if you are driving at night it is very daunting, the cornes are sharp in places and the average speed is somewhere around 60km/hour. Police fines are double in construction zones and there is always a cop somewhere along the highways giving out tickets.

If you are planning to avoid going through the city, you may well need those three hours. You’ll have to cross the inlet at Second Narrows Bridge, then go around through Burnaby, New Westminster and Richmond. Very long route.

It depends on what you mean by 3 hours to spare. Depending on traffic and roadwork it can take that long to make it to Whistler. As they are upgrading the roads in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics there are a lot of sections that have reduced speed limits even if there is no construction happening that day. if you mean that you have an additional 3 hours there are many points of interest along the Sea To Sky Highway starting at Horseshoe Bay and heading up to Squamish then on to Whistler. A lot depends on the time of year you are heading up that way. If nothing else you can always stop for a break in the Squamish area which has really grown in recent years with a number of shops and services being added.

What time of year and what are you interested in are some additional information you could perhaps provide.

There are several stops of interest including Shannon Falls just before you reach the Squamish area. There is the BC Mining Museum ar Britannia Beach and a railway museum in Squamish. I always take a break in Squamish to relax and stretch my legs on the way up to Whistler. Of course if you do not want to arrive early, or cannot, then you could always head past Whistler and drive up to Pemberton and back. The drive is not bad and there are a several places to stop if you wish to look at the scenery.

Well with one thing and another you may find what I did of staying at the airport to make sure you are booked in and dont miss anything. There are some shops and things not to far away. I think you are best to ask someone when you are there and know for sure what time you have. I always worry about missing flights there is so much to do to catch them now,

  9. Well – when I was doing exactly that style of body search during the Unabomber scare, we used disposable gloves. At one time every person travelling in the Pacific Basin area was body searched. We used a lot of gloves, and the airlines complained about the cost.
