What’s the cheapest way to get from the Vancouver airport to Victoria?

January 26, 2010 Posted by admin

I’m going to be departing on a cruise out of Vancouver but wanted to tour Victoria first, and probably stay overnight there. What’s the cheapest option?

Not necessarily the cheapest but the best, in terms of value, simplicity and time, is to take Pacific Coach Lines from the airport. The bus will drive onto the ferry, you get off for the ferry ride, then you get back on the bus when the ferry arrives and the bus takes you into downtown Victoria. When you need to come back to Vancouver, do the same but take the bus right to the cruise terminal or into downtown Vancouver. The city bus is cheaper but will take much longer and is more of a nuisance especially with luggage. Check the PCL website for schedules and fares.

Time will be a valuable commodity for you and I would suggest to rent a car at the airport and then take it back to the airport (unless you can drop it off downtown Vancouver).
By the time you fool around getting a bus, then finding a hotel, hauling your luggage, you will have to return to Vancouver.
For the little more $$$, rent a car, go direct from the airport to the Ferry which is about 20 minutes. You can get all the brochures and pamphlets on the ferry regarding things to do . . .there is a huge wall of these pamphlets.
You want to be ready to go for the cruise.
I just came back from a 14 day Alaskan Cruise out of Vancouver (actually two cruises .. 7 days up and 7 days back). You will enjoy it and don’t forget your binoculars.

There is regular bus service between
    Vancouver Airport and downtown
    Victoria.
When you get to the Bus Station in Victoria – you can walk to the Empress Hotel and eat in the Bombay Room.
