My family and I are travelling to the UK for 2 weeks. Should we get travel health insurance?

February 22, 2010 Posted by admin

My husband is a British citizen and would be covered over there but, what about his family?

Yes, you should always take out travel insurance…in any case why should the hard pressed British tax payer pay medical costs for your family just because your husband is British….and as another answerer said, if he isn’t resident then he is not covered either…

I personally wouldn’t worry about travel health insurance. I was just in Oxford studying abroad and learned all about their health care system. It is completely different than what we have here and you will be able to be treated without insurance either way. The person at the school said it would cost (if I remember correctly) 30 pounds for the visit for someone who is not part of their heath care system.

    Have a good trip!

Citizenship makes no difference. Residence does. If he is not EU resident he will NOT be covered and will have to pay for all care. As will you. You will also recieve no help with repatriation should you be very sick – this can cost many thousands.

Yes, you should. Travel insurance is quite cheap, and the NHS (UK health system) will not pay for your treatment because you have not been paying UK taxes.

Yes you should get insurance but make sure you have good cover. Try Squaremouth.com, it’s a comparison website that has great tools for sorting and filtering products. It also has offices in London as well as the USA.

  7. The independent variable is what you change, and the dependent variable is what changes as an effect of your change. Like if I have 2 cups of soil with a seed in it, and I add water to one, the amount of water would be the independent variable, and the amount of growth would be the dependent. Get it?
