I am planning to meet my friends for skiing out west during the week before Christmas to avoid the crowds. We have always wanted to go to Whistler to ski but we are worried that it wont have good snow. I’m not sure if we should risk the possibility of rain all week. Would it be wiser to forget BC and go with Breck? I have heard the snow there is great.
In a good snow year in the PNW Whistler may still be iffy before Christmas. There is snow making on many slopes but unless it is cold that is chancy. For the best party, Whistler, for the best snow, if I could predict the future I’d know what 6 numbers to play for tonight’s Lotto drawing. Try to delay making a commitment until much later in the year. By Thanksgiving you may know about Whistler. Have fun. The best snow for Whistler is usually in late January to late March. If it rains in the Village, then it is snowing on top. 5000 foot of elevation means rain at the bottom, corn in the mid station and powder in the back bowls.
Which ski resort would have better snow in mid December 2010, Whistler Blackcomb or Breckenridge CO?
Since when did International flights start flying to Vancouver Airport(YVR)?
"Hi"…remember the South Terminal was the first airport and I’d say it was 1932 as I pulled the following facts ……
1932
The first scheduled passenger flights begin, with Alaska Washington Airway’s transborder service to Seattle, Washington. Soon after, Canadian Airways begins operations to Victoria.
1934
On July 1, United Air Lines begins flights to Seattle using a new 10-passenger Boeing 247 aircraft for passengers, mail and cargo. The following year, Canadian Airways begins regular passenger and airmail service to Seattle.
I got that from this site……
http://www.yvr.ca/authority/history/history.asp?id=1930
Some interesting Charles Lindbergh stuff in 1927 as regards the old YVR and resulting in the South Terminal being started in 1929….*lol*
Glad to help ! *S* (Michael C…)
How long does it take to reach Vancouver Airport from Vancouver Downtown using cab or bus?How much it’ll cost?
I have to get out of US Consulate in downtown Vancouver around 3:30 pm on 22nd Aug and fly to Montreal on the same day. The earliest flight is 4:50 pm, and the next direct flight to Montreal is at 11PM. I need to be at my company’s conference in Montreal in the morning of Wednesday (23 Aug). I could use a Taxi–how much would it cost, and would it be faster? Or Vancouver’s traffic could be too bad? Would a bus be better–any other options to travel?
I suggest you take cab,I’ve ever taken cab from downtown vancouver to the airport.I spent $25 plus tip.
It took me about 35 minutes to there.
If you are in a hurry, take cab, if not, take buses.
In downtown,I think go to Granville street (near Robson street) take No.98 B-Line bus to YVR (have to get off at the airport transfer bus stop during the route). It takes about one hour up.
I had many times taken buses to YVR from downtown. Van

Has anyone ever used the Fairmont Hotel gym/pool at the Vancouver (YVR) airport?
I have heard they have a drop in for the gym and possibly a steam room that you can use after you drop your luggage and check in at the airport. Can you please give me as many details about this if you have experienced it.
I haven’t experienced this yet, but I can provide you the weblink that you would be able to look up the information about this hotel.

I want to find cheap accomodation in vancouver to reside in at least 6 months. I cant afford hotels .?
I want to know the name of such accomodation.what options do I have ? Notice that I want it to be a Safe place .
There are a few hostels downtown that are fairly good. I would recommend checking out the one on Pender street first. From there, go to commercial drive and check out the billboards/posted notes in the different coffee shops. There are many people that live around that area that are in need of roomates for relatively cheap.

April 19th, 2008 as part of my Vancouver / Vancouver Island vacation, I rented a car and drove the 120 kilometers north from Vancouver to Whistler. This stretch of highway is called “Sea to Sky” just to sort of get you in the mood
it’s a really nice drive.
After arriving in Whistler, I bought a daypass to go up on Whistler Mountain by gondola – a 20 minute ride or so.
I’m not sure if it’s the highest mountain I’ve ever been on but it’s surely the best view I’ve had from any mountain. It was windy and quite cold up there but it didn’t seem to matter
I wanted to get some good shots from up there.
The ‘TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival’ was going on that week but even so, Whistler Village seemed like a nice and quiet place. I wonder how things will change when the 2010 Winter Olympics are held here.
For your information, I don’t ski – however, seeing this, I might have to learn how to and return some day
