how can I get health insurance to travel to Europe?

June 8, 2010 Posted by admin

I’m a resident in the USA and I want to travel to Europe, to apply for the visa i need to have medical health/travel insurance and i have to summit an official letter stating that the insurance will be valid for Europe, it has coverage of at least $40.000 and it has coverage for emergencies. I just called my health insurance company and they dont provide any of the things i need. Where can i get one that does? (I dont have so much time before the trip)

Any travel agency will be happy to sell you a travel insurance, those have the things you need.
Some insurance companies will sell travel insurances too, as well as the airports.

It just takes a few minutes and some money.

Added:
If you need to apply for a Schengen visa a health insurances is compulsary. Asker mentions being a resident of the USA, not a citizen.

Where is the best place to find international travel health insurance to a popular destination?

I would check with a travel agent or at a local AAA’s–they have travel insurance programs that cover everything. You can pick different levels of coverage, anywhere from hurricane insurance, coverage for lost luggage, pre-existing medical conditions, delayed or cancelled flight coverage(if booking a cruise it’s best to book it through the cruiseline itself because they cover the flight interruption problems and will guarantee transportation to the next port of call)–the agents can give you brochures expaining the ypes of coverage and most coverages cover domestic and international travel! AAA’s members get discounts also so you may want to consider joining if you aren’t a member already! have a great trip!

Air Travel Tips for Travelers with Health Issues or Disabilities

May 18, 2010 Posted by admin

Travel by air for people with health issues, handicaps, disabilities or special needs, can be challenging. The following air travel tips will help make your flight and trip, whether domestic or international, easier, cheaper and safer.

When making your travel reservations, request any carts, wheelchair services or any other transportation you’ll need. Fully describe your limitations and needs. Get your airline ticket and boarding pass well ahead of time so you don’t have to wait in any lines. You’ll be able to arrange travel at a discount, get better travel deals, and avoid last minute travel headaches.

Talk with your airline representative or travel agent regarding the type of restrooms that are on the airplane. Call your airport and find out as much information as possible about the restrooms and handicapped parking at the airport.

You’ll need to find out how you’ll be boarding the airplane at each of the airports involved in your trip. You may need another type of airplane or alternative route so you’ll have Jetways, or jet bridges, into the plane from the airport and not have to worry about stairs.

One year my mother and I were going to fly out of the San Jose, California airport and discovered after we arrived that we had to go outside on the ground level with the wheelchair to the tarmac. Four airline employees had to carry my mother in the wheelchair up the steep steps to board the plane. This might be impossible if there are weight issues.

Think about what seat arrangement will work best for you needs. Would an aisle seat make it more convenient to get to the restroom? You’ll want to avoid sitting in the emergency exit row. The passengers in this row may be asked to help others in an emergency situation.

Let the airlines and flight attendants know if you have any assisting devices. Find out the best way to store them so they arrive without damage.

Always keep in mind what you can do easily and without assistance, as well as situations that would require help.

Can you transfer to seats by yourself? Will you need a transfer board or assistance from airline staff?

Consider hiring a travel nurse if you have serious health or medical issues. There are traveling nurses networks.

Can you describe your wheelchair, scooter or walker, dimensions, weight, type of tires, type of batteries, etc.? You may need to take along spare batteries. You also may need to rent or buy a travel wheelchair.

Make sure to mention to your travel agent or airline representative any assisting devices you may need or already have like canes and crutches. Do you need a slow pace or are you a slow walker?

If you will be traveling through different time zones, how will jet lag affect your situation?

Consider how the following will be of concern during your trip and discuss with your travel agent: upper body strength, communication ability, speech issues, voice issues, vision problems, hearing problems, heat issues, medication needs, oxygen requirements, and dietary requirements such as gluten-free meals.

Try to arrange or book your air travel through experienced travel agencies or tour operators that specialize in disabled travel. There are a large number of agencies throughout the U. S., Canada, Europe, Australia and many other countries.

Just in case you need them, it’s also good to know if there are any travel agencies that specialize in disabled travel at your destination, for return travel, local resources or travel services.

At the airport let airline boarding personnel know that you may need extra time to board the plane. Sit close to the door at the gate so you’re called first and then board at a comfortable pace.

After the plane has landed, never get off the plane until you see or have your assisting device, wheelchair, travel wheelchair, etc. Flight attendants have to stay on the airplane until the last passenger leaves. They will help you while you’re on the plane but once you’re off the plane they won’t be able to help you.

Make sure you carry your medications and back-up prescriptions with you onto the plane, along with doctors’ names, addresses, fax numbers for faxing prescriptions, phone numbers, medical diagnosis, names and dosages of medications you’re taking and any allergies you have.

Photocopy passports, airline tickets, American Express Travelers Cheques, credit cards, any important papers.

Carry your health insurance information with you on the plane. Know what you’ll do if you encounter a health problem or medical emergency on your trip. Get travel insurance to ensure less costly medical assistance. These emergency bills may not be covered under your health insurance policy. It’ll ease your mind to have this back-up travel insurance and prevent costly emergency medical charges on your trip. Emergency medical costs can run considerably higher than standard medical fees.

These air travel tips should provide good insurance and help make your airplane travel, with health issues, handicaps, disabilities or special needs, easier, safer and cheaper.

The Benefit Of Having Health Insurance For Students

April 25, 2010 Posted by admin

Are you a student? If yes, you must have many times encountered insurance representatives selling students health insurance. If you have not considered their advice seriously, you must do now. There are many ways you can benefit from a students’ health insurance policy. For instance, if you plan to travel and study abroad during an upcoming semester, you need to consider purchasing overseas student health insurance seriously. It will let you rest assured about any kind of illness, physical emergency or medical expenses, you need to incur while staying in abroad or traveling for study.

A student health insurance is not only for students who get sick easily. The insurance policy will save you from any kind of illness you may face anytime during your student life.

Getting a student health insurance coverage is a prudent decision especially when you have limited resources. Can you imagine the situation where you require to spend your entire saving within some days when you get sick? You cannot imagine the kind of expenses you need to encounter with to get a good hospital treatment without any health insurance coverage.

The insurance coverage will let you save a good amount of money that you would otherwise be spending on paying your hospital bills and medicine. The key is to stop thinking that you will never get sick. Emergency can strike anyone, anytime. Hence, you need to prepare yourself for the hazards and ill effects of a sickness in advance. This will save your money, time and most importantly provide you the peace of mind you need to concentrate on your studies.

Now, once you have decided to get a student’s health insurance policy, you need to find the most affordable one. The policy should be able to meet your specific requirements and suit your budget. There are several insurance companies that would offer you the best of student’s health insurance policy. All you require to do is to visit one of these companies and find out the best for you.

However, this is a tough task. The reason is that with so many student’s health insurance companies around and each claiming to offer the best and most affordable deal, one tends to get confused. Hence, you require to make some great efforts in this regard. Research is the key to success here. Try to make an extensive research on some reputed insurance lenders online and collect quotes from them. These quotes are free and allow you to compare the prices allotted by a particular lender on health insurance for students. This is the best way to get an affordable deal.

You can also purchase student health insurance from your college or from a private health care provider. If a student is under the age of twenty-four, he or she may be covered by parent’s health insurance policy.

Purchasing student health will help you remain healthy and concentrate on your studies. You can easily have prescription health coverage via students health insurance policy. This health insurance policy may not be able to cover all your health problems and accidents, but provide you basic coverage you require to keep yourself safe.

Just make sure to compare prices and coverage before going for a particular policy. Also make sure that the policy you purchase is coming from a reputed insurance lender. Purchasing student health insurance will let you enjoy your student life and concentrate on your studies.

Finding A Health Insurance Plan In Florida

April 18, 2010 Posted by admin

Some strategies on finding affordable health insurance in Florida.

I’ve been a health insurance agent since 1985. I help Connecticut residents find health insurance and have for the last several years have also managed a website that helps people in other states including Florida find health insurance. You can find a health insurance broker in Florida by requesting quotes through my site.

Health Insurance Plans of Florida — Tips to Help You Pick the Right Policy

Choosing the best health insurance plan involves the following:

Finding a policy with or without using a health insurance broker in Florida who can offer you the lowest cost (but only with respect to the other two criteria)

Finding one of the health insurance plans of Florida that has a network that meets your needs

Finding the Florida health insurance plan with coverage that meets your needs

Choosing the right medical insurance policy involves finding the best rate quote amongst the Florida health insurance plans that meet your needs as to network and coverage. Choosing the lowest price is of course very easy. Determining whether the health insurance plan’s network of doctors meets your needs is only a little more difficult. Choosing a health insurance policy that covers you well can be complex. You may want to enlist the aid of a licensed health insurance broker in Florida. Most of this article focuses on the basics of determining how well a policy covers you.

In a perfect world, everyone would read and understand their insurance policies. However, I realize that many people will find a health insurance broker in Florida that they feel comfortable with and will want his or her recommendations. However, whether you use a broker or not, I strongly recommend that you contact the Florida office of Insurance Regulation in Tallahassee, FL (850) 413-3140 and make sure that any health insurance plan is approved by them. Insurance Departments cannot ensure that you get the best policy for your individual needs, but they do their best to make sure that each health insurance plan and each health insurance broker meets certain minimum standards. Be sure to work with companies and brokers that are in good standing.

Choosing the Florida Health Insurance Plan with the Right Network

Health insurance carriers usually have websites that will list the MDs and medical facilities that accept their plans. All that I’m aware of will have a printed list that they can mail to you. The right plan will have your physician on their list or at least physicians who are located a convenient distance from your home. If you travel it is important to find a plan that covers you well in other geographic areas as well.

Choosing the Florida Health Insurance Plan with the best coverage for you

Health insurance policies may be the most complex of the insurance contracts offered to individuals and families. Understanding how your medical plan will pay for your medical bills can be difficult. Fortunately most of the brochures and outlines of coverage that you may receive from a health insurance provider will have a similar structure. They will have sections similar to the following:

What is Covered?

Health Plan Exclusions and Limitations

What is Covered?

This section will detail what medical procedures your health insurance policy will cover. The policy should have a phrase like “reasonable and customary” or “usual, reasonable and customary” or something similar when describing how much they will cover.

Watch out for health insurance policies with:

Monetary limits for each procedure

A long list of procedures that the medical insurance policy will cover

Better health insurance policies will not list dollar amounts for each procedure. They will pay using a formula that is based on what other physicians and hospitals will charge you in the same geographic area. A phrase like “usual and customary” indicates that they use such a formula. The cost of medical care rises so quickly that a dollar amount that seems impressive today may not fully reimburse you even a year from now.

Solid health Insurance policies will not have a long list of procedures that they will cover listed on the policy. The long list seems impressive because the list takes up a lot of space. Look at the statements below. It should be easy to choose between one and two.

“Our health insurance plan will cover you for everything except for expenses caused by self-inflicted injuries and substance abuse.” (“I’ve been to every city in Florida except Orlando.”)
“Our health insurance policy will cover your nose, your ears, your toes, your hands, your right lung, your calf and your knee” (“I’ve been to Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami Beach”)
Health Plan Exclusions and Limitations

This section will tell you what is excluded. Typically plastic surgery will not be covered. Also experimental procedures and expenses caused by self-inflicted injuries will not be covered. You should understand each of these limitations before you commit to a policy. Most policies will not include maternity insurance, so if you want to get pregnant, make sure that you know how your policy will cover maternity expenses. Unfortunately, maternity insurance is not available in many states except as part of a group insurance plan.

To summarize:

Determine what health insurance plans will cover you in your area

Determine which health insurance plans offer adequate coverage

Choose the plans that offers the best value based on price and coverage

The health insurance options Orlando residents have are similar to the health insurance options Miami residents have, since the plans will work in similar ways throughout the state.

Don’t Ditch Your Travel Insurance Policy

April 18, 2010 Posted by admin

A professional body has said that remembering to renew or take out annual travel insurance for the first time is as important as remembering your suitcase when you are going on holiday and should therefore be as equally high up in your list of priorities when you are packing. A spokesman from the professional body has spoken out in an attempt to warn people that trying to save money by not taking out a travel insurance policy is a bad idea as they could be getting themselves into even more financial difficulty. This could result in the person having to pay out thousands on something that their travel insurance policy would have covered them for. This could include such things as hospital treatment as a result of an accident, travel arrangements in order to get home after an accident or extra money spent on flights due to cancellation. The professional body continued to inform people about the importance of travel insurance by saying that the policy will cover people for a lot of incidents and situations and there are many insurance policies out there that don’t cost a lot of money. The body also insisted that the European Health Insurance Cards are not sufficient cover on their own. The spokesman for the body went on to say that travel insurance is just as important as your suitcase, it’s essential that you take it with you when you go on holiday because if you don’t, you are just running the risk of wasting a large amount of money that isn’t necessary. This information comes at a time when a leading price comparison site found that almost half of Brits were canceling their holiday insurance and pension contributions in an attempt to save money during this credit crunch when many people are finding that they need to find any ways they can in order to save as much money as they can.

There are many insurance policies that don’t cost that much money. People have been advised that travel insurance is essential. Many people are canceling their holiday insurance in an attempt to try and save money.
